Designer Focus

Phil got his start while he was at Cal Arts Institute just outside of Los Angeles. After getting his degree and designing over 30 shows it was time to move on. Working next as an assistant to Larry Oberman, Phil designed in about every 99 seat theater in Los Angeles. After that experience he moved on to the Mark Taper Forum as their lighting technician for their childrens theater tour working closely, with their lighting designer Michael Gilliam. Since Phils part time job was ending at 1:00 p.m., Phil came to work at GAM part time in the design department. "I spent many hours working at GAM on quality control and as a designer I learned to really appreciate the steps GAM takes in controlling the products they sell to the designers."

After feeling that he needed some growth outside of LA for his career, Phil headed to New York City where he did extensive designing in off off Broadway houses and then moving to off Broadway. Then it was to Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall and doing some special event lighting. Currently Phil is the lighting designer for the Regis and Kelly show that tapes and airs on ABC.

With all that going on, Phil still finds the time to light about six other shows and events while traveling the world with Franz Haray Lighting his magic show. Phil is now taking his first and well deserved vacation in six years. Congratulations Phil!
