Designer Focus

This month's designer focus is on K.C. Sieckowski. K.C.'s latest play "The Castle of Perseverance" is a medieval morality play adapted by Edgar Schell and directed by Robert Cohen. This is the first showing of the play in the United States, since being written and performed originally in Medieval Times. "The Castle of Perseverance" attempts to dramatize the whole life of a representative man, from his birth, to the final disposition of his soul. He is attracted by the Seven Deadly Sins in his youth, repents in middle age and then enters the Castle of Covetousness. Death comes while he is counting his treasure, and his soul is carried off to Hell, crying for mercy. God's four daughters, Mercy, Peace, Truth and Righteousness, debate with Him whether his deathbed repentance deserves salvation. K.C. used four TwinSpin II's to add sparkle with gobo patterns #305, #731 and #217, for scenes depicting the battle between virtue and sin. K.C. also used exclusively GAM gobos for this heavily textured show. K.C. used GamColor to get the style and expressionistic feeling of the show. She used very saturated colors to represent "sin" such as #855, #270 and #670 and tints such as # 106, #720 and #780 for "virtue". " I like the way I could use saturated colors and tints without making the scene look muddy," said K.C. K.C. is in her Junior year as an undergrad at UCI Irvine in Irvine, California. Her senior project thesis will be Rocky Horror Picture Show. We look forward to keeping up with K.C. and seeing what she has done, and what she is planning to do. We are sure that we will hear from her again soon.
